So sad that it should come to this…
With the semester at its end, my graduation staring me in the face and the future gnawing on my arm, I just wanted to finally say thank you to everyone and anyone who stopped by this lame excuse for a blog over the past four months. It has meant a lot to see the enthusiasm, watch my posts get first page search results on Google and become a deeper part of a community I’ve desperately needed an excuse to join. Speaking of the community, the Full Specs name will live on at its new home Feminerdity where I will be a gaming, technology and columns writer. I’m really excited about the Feminerdity community because it is a bunch of women writing on anything and everything geeky. The site is basically fueled by the notion that women are minorities in the tech and gaming world and it plans to show that our voices are just as valid. There is also a science, fashion and comics department as well as general editorial. Hopefully this site gets enough powerful and committed minds to push it into the big time.
Through this blog, I met some great technologically inclined people, including an Atari expert, Marty Goldberg, and I really want to give thanks to the able-bodied few who took the time to answer my bullshit on Facebook. My series on computer components was a big hit while the series on gamers became a flop. I’m actually attempting to revive the gamer series through forum posts on The Verge, so if you’re so inclined to keep up on my junk at Feminerdity, there might be a rejoice and revival of the gamer profiling.
I have to thank Ben DeCamp for hanging out around here and commenting. I don’t even know where you came from, DeCamp!! Next, thanks to the classmates of James Wilson’s blogging seminar class, especially those of you who are really trying to amp up your grade by posting everywhere two weeks before the semester ends and changing the date to look like it was posted long ago. Finally, I must thank the spammers. I don’t know where they came from or who they think they’re kidding but it was altogether hilarious and exasperating deleting the 60+ spam comments I got per day. With names like “lista de email” or commenting in Chinese and Japanese characters, sorry folks, you’re not getting by… nice try. I was also particularly fond of the ones that told me I could get more hits to my blog or that an ad on my blog messed up their tablet. Bitch, I’m getting like 50 – 200 every day and there are NO ads, thank you!
With Full Specs (and let us not forget the previous name PlayTech), I have not only been writing and listening, but I have been learning and understanding. Right along with my reader, I learned about the motherboard or what it means to be “tech-savvy.” I learned about how Monaco is played and I saw that a lot of people don’t really want to define their gaming habits with a word. As I learned, I hope my reader did, too. I began to leave out long definitions of a previously used term, I started to ramp up my posting frequency and I even made sure to check out what others were saying about the same topic to even further help my reader.
So long, everyone, and thanks for all the fish! I go on to a (hopefully) better place.
